Seattle's changing skyline: Are we keeping it real?
Seattle is Booming!We see cranes all over town from Northgate to Rainier valley. Along with growth comes important conversations about community and culture. We often hear from clients wondering if Seattle is losing its personality, or voicing concerns about the line between growth and gentrification. Being thoughtful about these issues is important. We found this post on one of my favorite architecture and design sites, Arcade. They bring an interesting angle to the conversation in the form of a demolitions map showing us what is being torn down and challenging us to think carefully about what will be put in it’s place.
"The map represents a version of Seattle now destined to become history. But it also indicates potential. Whatever fills these voids will shape the Seattle of tomorrow.
As the saying goes, the only thing that is constant in life is change. While change is certainly inevitable, it should also be intentional. In relation to our cities, we have a collective responsibility as designers, developers and citizens to promote meaningful growth.
